White River Trail

The White River Trail is a multiple-use trail that accommodates year-round hiking, winter snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and horseback riding. The trail parallels the beautiful White River and passes through a wide variety of vegetation types. This 12 mile trail also provides opportunities to view a wide range of wildlife.

LOCATION

The White River Trail is located in Oceana County, Michigan. The nearest community is Hesperia.

ACCESS

From Hesperia, go west on M-20 about 2 miles to 192nd Avenue, then turn left for 1 mile to Garfield Road. Turn right for 3 miles and follow signs leading to Pines Point Recreation Area.

(Or) From Hesperia, go south on Maple Island Road about 1 mile to Garfield Road. Turn right (west) for 5 miles and follow signs leading to Pines Point Recreation Area.

  • Drinking water - summer only

SEASON

The White River Trail is open year-round. It is used for skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer.

FEES

There are no fees charged for the trail if accessed from the White River Foot Travel Area.  A parking fee is required if you park at the Pines Point Campground.

CONSIDERATIONS

  • Grey, diamond shaped blazers mark the trail.

  • Camping within 200 feet of the river should only occur at designated sites. The collection of firewood must be limited to that needed for campfires only.

  • Use of motorized vehicles on the trail is not permitted.

  • Trail users are asked to leave no trace of their visit.

  • Hikers are advised to carry their own drinking water, as water along the trail may not be suitable for drinking.
