Shelley Lake

Shelley Lake offers a primitive camping experience.  There are nine designated sites that overlook Shelley Lake, which is 15 acres in size and completely surrounded by National Forest land.  The lake offers fishing opportunities for bass and blue gill.

LOCATION

Shelley Lake is located in Newaygo County, Michigan.  The nearest community is Woodland Park, about 3 miles west.

ACCESS

From White Cloud, travel north on M-37 about 10 miles, then turn east just before 11 Mile Road.  Follow the primitive road to the site.

Access for boating:  Follow the above directions but from the intersection, follow the left fork in the road to the boat launch.

  • Gravel boat launch

SEASON

The season is from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. However, camping is allowed year-around.

CONSIDERATIONS

  • To avoid resource damage, camping is allowed at numbered sites only.  Camping at this site is prohibited beyond 14 days.

  • Camping is not permitted within 200 feet of the waters edge unless it is at a designated site.

  • Water is not available and there are no garbage facilities.

  • Care should be taken to keep the area clean and in the condition it was found, so visitors are asked to please pack out what they pack in.

  • The access road into Shelley Lake is narrow and winding and not recommended for travel by long or low clearance vehicles.

  • The boat launch is accessible for carry-in boats only.

  • NOTICE:  Pending regulations may prohibit gas combustion engines on the lake.
