Manistee National Forest

C.C.C. Trail (White Cloud Segment)

It is the policy of the Huron-Manistee National Forests that all Forest Lands are closed unless posted open to all riders on all trails.  Motorized vehicles that are licensed as ORVs can operate on trails, roads, and areas which are designated and signed for their use.  All National Forest roads are open to "street legal" vehicles, unless posted closed.  Motorized trails are only for use by vehicles less than 50" wide.

The Michigan Cross Country Cycle Trail (MCCCT) is over 750 miles long and located on roads and trails throughout Michigan's lower peninsula and is part of Michigan's 3,100+ miles of off road trail system which spans both State and Federal lands.  This page deals with a portion of the trail found on the Baldwin/White Cloud Ranger District.  Maps of other segments can be obtained by writing the Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan, 10504 Broughwell Rd., Rives Junction, MI 49277-9653.  Telephone (517) 569-9999.  Fax them at (517) 569-9979 or email at cccbill@dmci.net.  Visit their website.

Approximately 15 miles of the White Cloud segment of the CCC Trail have been widened to accomodate unlicensed ATVs.  The CCC Trail south of M-20 has been closed.

This segment of the MCCT provides 26 miles for licensed motorcycles.  The trail is comprised of both single and two-track sections.  At several locations, the trail crosses and, in a few cases, utilizes short segments of Forest, County, and State Highways, so attention to safety signing is important.  It connects with the segment on the Baldwin District.  There is also a 20 mile loop for unlicensed motorcycles and ATVs (trail is a 50 inch single-track trail).

CONSIDERATIONS

  • The trail crosses and utilizes numerous County, State, and Forest Roads, so attention to STOP, STOP AHEAD, and INTERSECTION signs is important.

  • Gas and public phones are located in White Cloud and Brohman.

  • Please pay attention to signs designating licensed and unlicensed motorcycle and ATV segments.  ONLY the segment from Highway M-20 to 7 Mile Road (including the loop) is open to unlicensed ATVs and motorcycles.  You must have a street legal motorcycle to ride all other parts of the trail.

  • The trail is posted with bright orange TRIANGLE confidence markers with symbols designating use.  Orange diamonds designate snowmobile only trails.

  • You can improve our ORV trail system by becoming a partner with the U.S. Forest Service to do trail maintenance or by membership in one of our partner organizations.  To find out what you can do, contact any one of the Huron-Manistee National Forest offices. Get involved ... become a partner.

  • Travel only trails designated open for the type of ORV you have.

  • All ORVs must have, in good working condition and in constant use, a muffler which will meet or exceed all sound emmission standards set by state law.  Exhaust noise shall not exceed 99Db(A) (or 94Db(A) on vehicles manufactured after January 1, 1982) when tested according to the provisions of the SAE J1287, June 1986 test. All ORVs must be equipped with an appropriate manufacturer's muffler and U.S. Forest Service approved spark arrestor.

  • It is prohibited to operate any vehicle in a manner which damages or unreasonably disturbs the land, wildlife, or vegetative resources.
